This is a long and involved tale of a Skandian Princess and her English double who is tricked into taking the Princess's place. It's a book children can really get their teeth into because of it's length and far reaching plot.
The beginning of the book is outstanding as Jenna, an ordinary schoolgirl is unknowingly kidnapped as part of a plot to replace a princess in order to pass new laws in a foriegn country. Skandia is brought alive and the political intrigue is well thought out and a strong story develops.
The young lead characters are well rounded and the plot is entertaining. The pace of the book is great at the end when the story starts winding up to its climax.
The book does suffer from a frankly boring section where the fictional terrorists and elder statesmen and royal leaders are explained and their motives, history and intrigue are laid out. The sections with the young heros in are more compelling and far more fun.
A good read for girls.
Jenna and her friend get invited to audition for a movie about a princess. Little does Jenna know, it's not actually for a movie.
Without telling her overprotective mother, she auditions. She makes it to the final round, not believing that she's been singled out and chosen above all the other girls in her town.
But instead of filming a movie, they take her out of the country to fill in for a real princess during her salute to the crowd during her birthday - so that the princess can enjoy her day in peace. She's still dealing with her grief over her father's death not two months prior.
While Jenna's auditioning, the real princess has escaped from her boarding school and is heading for safety. Political issues are cropping up and she knows that her uncle, the regent, will be siding on a very important issue. The two parts of the country are at odds the southern half is wealthy and happy while the northerners struggle with poverty.
When the king was alive, he was working towards strengthening the country - together. But now that he's dead, things have gotten worse. The regent is going in the opposite direction.
The princess knows she's got to make a stand, but with someone standing in for her, how will she get the chance? Meanwhile, Jenna's beginning to figure out that something's not right, but she's not sure what's really going on.
THE PRINCESS PLOT is one part political drama, one part mystery, and one part fairy tale, all included in a very fun read.

Reading a book in translation is always interesting, for questions will always arise in the back of your head. Is the original this good, is it better? Has something been lost in translation, but unless you read the original language also and can compare the two you just have to judge the book on its own? As such, this is an interesting story; it is the story of a plain girl Jenna, who one day after school is asked to audition to play a princess in a new movie. The talent scouts are set up outside her school, and she decided to defy her mother and audition. When the audition goes well she is asked to travel to meet the director for the final decision. There she is asked to play the real princess of Scandia, during her birthday celebration to see if she can really play the role - to give the real princess a day off.
However she soon realizes that things are not as they appear, from the real princess' uncle and Regent crying over her, to all the secrecy. Soon there are rebels and bombings and she is kidnapped. That's when the adventure really begins.
This story is wonderfully written. David Henry Wilson has translated many books into English and is an accomplished author himself. Between him and Kirsten Boie, they have told a fantastic story. The pace is well-done, the settings and characters are real and well portrayed, the scenes well laid out and the progression and the resolution entertaining and satisfying.
This book will make a great, fun summer read. It is light enough to be pleasure reading but serious enough to keep the reader entertained and turning the pages.

I received the book in a good amount of time, but when I looked at it, it was in worse condition than stated upon purchase. I don't believe it was stated, but the book is an old library book so there are 2 library stickers on it. The bar code from the library is scribbled out with a black sharpie. The jacket is taped onto the book in the front and back with ugly white tape. The book shows alot of wear on the inside cover as well. I only buy used if it is listed as very good or like new. This book was neither. Also, the book was mailed in a flimsy envelope with no padding. Not very impressed.
Soooo good it was suspenseful and keeping you on your toes the whole time I didn't want to put down the book
My daughters enjoyed this book.
