I thoroughly enjoyed this! I ordered this novel after reading an article about this new author in my local paper. (Michael Hartigan lives in a neighboring town.) I figured I'd help support his "budding career" but never expected to find myself so immersed in this tale. I couldn't out it down.Bravo Michael! I want more! Looking forward to another great read someday.

Stone Angels Michael Hartigan 9781939166791 Books Reviews
Michael Hartigan inserts the reader squarely into the story with compelling narrative and characters that are at once complex and familiar. I couldn't wait to find out what came next and stayed up way too late so I could keep reading.
I wouldn't call myself a voracious reader, but when I find a book I like I rip through it. This was the case with Stone Angels. For some reason I really connected with the characters and it made me think back to my college days. The characters were well developed, likeable and interesting. The plot was not at all predictable and I liked how it moved along. I would recommend this book to anyone!
I bought this book based on the reviews and was sorely disappointed. I didn't find anything thrilling about it. Reading through the book, I could not determine who it was written for - far too sophomoric for adults and definitely too lame and cliched for young adults.
Truman Capote meets Vladimir Nabokov. After reading the first sentence of this book, it is impossible to put it down. Every page and every chapter ending begs for more reading. It is a story that almost every reader can relate to because Hartigan adds in every typical aspect of a year in the life of a college student. The difficulty in reading this book is being so empathetic to Augustine and feeling every emotion he feels page after page. Jane Austen once said that "if a book is well written, I always find it too short." After reading this book, that is exactly how I felt. I can't wait for a new book by Hartigan.
My marriage definitely suffered as a result of reading Stone Angels. From the moment I opened the book until the the time I finished the last page, this book had my full attention. Day and night. Constant inquiries from my wife for dinner's out, sorting through our baby registry, and even love-making were ignored as the trials of Augustine Shaw unfolded before me. The story of Shaw brought me back to my own glorious days at Providence College and the house parties, endless nights at Prime Time, and meeting beautiful young co-eds like Lily. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspenseful novel filled with sex and violence, especially if they have any ties with PC. My only hope is that the author returns to Providence College for another 4 years so that he can write a sequel.
Stone Angels is clever take on the traditional mystery, knowing who the killer was but not knowing why. I had multiple theories before the truth finally emerged! It's a powerful statement on how one moment can change your entire life. Though you do have to pay attention to keep track of the timeline during flashbacks. I loved the story, loved that it was set at Providence College. Michael's writing offers well-crafted and visual turns of phrase that put me right in the scene. Would love to see a sequel to see what happens to Auggie.
A rare find, a thrilling page turner with intelligent themes. In his first book Hartigan finds his stride with a character that not only entertains but also examines. This book explores the subtleties of young adult social competition, the erosiveness of jealousy, and the fickle nature of guilt. There's sex, violence, and dry humor, but Hartigan's talent really shows through in his dialogue between characters. If you want a psychological thriller that will make you both cringe and laugh, often in the same chapter, look no further.
